Worthy Worship
A brief study of the word worship in the Bible will reveal the posture and intent of its meaning. Worship in and of itself calls for one bowing down and giving obeisance before a deity. In the New Testament we discover the Greek word is proskyneo which is the word translated worship. The New Testament uses it only in reference to a divine being. Even in the parable in Matthew 18 the servant worshiped and fell on his knees. “We see in this parable the divine king plainly standing behind the king of the parable,” says Geoffrey Bromily. Thus those who seek help from Jesus fall at his feet. This is more than a gesture of respect. Worship involves one taking his or her rightful place before the God who created them. In worship one gives place to the Most High..we become abased in his presence. And you know we get turned off by this concept, don’t we? We live in a democracy where we bow before no one. Which is rightfully so. But before God we will bow. God is holy and just. Before him we must learn to worship.
