Wisdom From Above
I would suspect that there is not one person in this
room this morning that would not jump at the chance to become wiser if given
the opportunity.
Wisdom is a highly coveted quality.
I pray for wisdom a lot because as your pastor,
I sometimes feel humanly inadequate.
The Bible gives us not only clues on where to find
wisdom, but it gives us instructions and guidelines.
For instance, in Proverbs 24:13-14, it says,
“My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the drippings of the honey comb are
sweet to your taste.
Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you
find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.”
Where do we find wisdom?
And why should we be looking for it, anyway?
The wisdom the Bible tells about is something
not available on the shelf at Wal-Mart, nor is it the type of wisdom one
gains through the experiences of life.
The wisdom we are going to examine is explained
in James 3:17-18.
“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then
peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without
favoritism and hypocrisy.
And
the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make
peace.”
