When God Laughs
Proverbs 1:23-33

Disbelief – an alarming word to me.  For some, it is a way of life.  However, disbelief does not change God or His words.  Refusal is another word which causes me anguish.  At times, I do choose my way instead of God’s way, but for others, refusal of God’s word is also a way of life to them.

Proverbs 1:23-33 describes an individual who chooses to ignore God.  You see, it matters not what we may or may not choose to believe about God and the Bible.  Our opinion cannot change the word of the Almighty.  Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, but is shall accomplish that which I purpose, and prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”  God’s word is power!  Did He not speak and the world come into being?

This passage before us this morning is one of intrigue, but also one of despair.  It begins with an encouragement.  Verse 23 – give heed to my reproof, give ear, and listen to what I am saying.  A reproof helps one see the errors of his or her way.  It has been said that reproof enables you to see where you’ve gone wrong, where you have gotten off the path.  See II Timothy 3:16.  “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness.”  The word of God is profitable – notice this!
