We Labor With God By Harold Dinsmore, M.Div
“We are laborers together with
God.”
It’s another Labor Day weekend.
Most people only think of Labor Day as the last
day for the pools to be open, the last big 3 day weekend before school
starts or as just another day off. Even though Labor Day is a secular holiday, the Christian
can and should utilize such opportunities for reflection and a time for
serious evaluation concerning our role in the work force. As we look at Scripture, we find
our toil in work created by the curse man brought upon himself and the
earth.
We find this account in Genesis 3:17-19.
Toil, sweat and death are characteristics of
our lives as we live upon the face of the earth. As we progress to the giving of the
Law to Moses and the people of Israel, God speaks these words following the
4th commandment in Exodus 20:9.
“Six days you shall labor and do all your
work.”
The context being the commandment concerning the
Sabbath day.
