The Shepherd
“I will appoint over them a single shepherd, My
servant David, and he will shepherd them.
He
will tend them himself and will be their shepherd.
I, the LORD,
will be their God, and My servant David will be a prince among them.
I,
the LORD,
have spoken.”
We begin our series this Advent season, which will be
dealing with the different aspects of our Savior.
You will notice our banners and your bulletin
cover, which will present the theme of the week right on through to the
Sunday after Christmas.
The acrostic SAVIOR will be our outline.
Today we will look at a passage from Ezekiel
which has already been read for us this morning that focuses on the promised
Messiah’s responsibility as the Shepherd.
Now during the Advent season, we celebrate the coming
of Jesus to the earth as Savior, but the tradition of Advent also is His
first coming to the hope of His second coming.
The notion, then, is that He would not have
appeared the first time if He is not going to appear the second time and is
truly a biblical fact which is clearly presented in Scripture.
