The Power of the Resurrection

            Last Friday’s observance known as Good Friday is one of the most important days of the Christian year.  For on that day Jesus was crucified not by chance but by choice, as John the Baptist echoed, “Behold, the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world.” 

            On that Friday, God’s only begotten son laid down his life for us.  The late R.G. Lee, the great Southern Baptist preacher of yester year wrote in 1957, that on the cross “the Light of the world died for those in darkness.” 

            On that cross came forth the power, the power of the blood, power to forgive sins, power to give life, in place of death.  The Apostle Paul has written, “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”  (I Cor. 1:18).
