The Mighty God

“For unto us a Son is born, unto us a Son is given and the government shall be upon His shoulders and His name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”

The candle lighted today is the 3^rd of the purple candles that represents repentance.  It is a sorrow for our sins which lasts only for a little while, which is followed by the job of forgiveness.

Today we emphasize the name of Messiah, which is “the Mighty God”.  Ann Hubbard writes, “The observance of Advent greatly enriches the Christmas Season.  By setting aside a few moments each day to meditate on Christ, the mystery of His incarnation and the reason for His coming, our hearts are made in tune with His.”¹
