The God We Worship
John 4:23-24

People often speak of going to church.  We do not speak quite so often of going to worship.  Why is that?  We ask our children the question, ‘Why do we go to church?’ and their usual reply is ‘To worship God.’

But now let’s explore a little more of what worship is all about.  The term worship comes from two words – worth meaning worthy and ship, a vessel for conveying something.  Worship, according to one writer, is looking inward to assess what we really are, looking around to determine what is really important, and looking up to recognize the source and value of everything.  So you could say that worship is the worthy vessel by which we acknowledge the worth of God.  Recognizing God’s worth helps us to put everything else in its proper perspective.

Worship means having a right sense of values.  It means knowing and acknowledging God as the source and salvation of life itself.  Putting it in a nutshell, worship is a way of life.
