The Call To Serve

             The question that I wish for us to consider this morning is this one: does God call us to a specific career?  People have been grappling with this question for years.  I have read some theologians who say no and just as many who say yes.  How do we discover God’s will on this issue?  Since we are a Bible-believing  Baptist group of Christians it is through God’s word that we should seek an answer to this question that all of us have probably asked at one time or another.

            Turn with me to Exodus 31:1-11.  In preparing to construct the tent of worship God issues this decree to Moses. (Read).  Here we find God calling by name, Bezalel.  He called and gifted him to perform the work to which God had called him.  Some react to such an assumption as career calling as being too fatalistic…..too much of determinism.  However, the ridicule comes from those who have the basic assumption that there is no God or at least their belief is in a God who is not active in the affairs of mankind.  This view assumes that God is a great clock maker and thus after creating the world set it off spinning in outer space.
