Shatter The Darkness
Matthew 6:22-23

Our youth conference encouraged everyone to run to the darkness.  That is kind of an unusual request, don’t you think?  Most of us are afraid of the dark, or we just feel uncomfortable in it.  We walk into a room, we flip on the light.  We have night-lights burning in the hallway.  We burn street lights, security lights with dusk to dawn capabilities or we have them set up with motion detectors.

You know, it is hard to see in the dark.  Our eyes cannot adjust to complete darkness.  Have you ever been in a room when the lights go out and your eyes dilate and make compensation for less light and sometimes, if there is a light leak from outside that room, you can kind of see?  But if you were to be in a cave or a sealed room and that takes place, you are clueless as to what might be going on.  We cannot see in the absence of light.

Our world in which we live is called the place of darkness.  In the book of John chapter one, we read in verses 4-5, “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.  The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.  In Matthew 4:16, the writer quotes from Isaiah 42, “the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light has dawned.”
