Need or Greed
Isaiah 56:11
By Harold D. Dinsmore, M.Div.
Ó2008 Harold D. Dinsmore

Many of you own a dog.  We had a very cute little cocker spaniel that lived to be 18  years old.  Rusty was small, but his appetite surpassed his size.  He was always hungry.  He would eat anything from green beans to polish sausage, from Kibbles & Bits to trash.  He even ate his bed and food and water dish from time to time.  He was always chewing on something.  If it wasn’t his bone, it might be my foot.

This verse describes humans in terms we readily understand.  I have witnessed my dog, as well as other dogs I have owned over the years, consume an entire bowl of tasty dog food and raise their head, ready for more.  I believe my dog Rusty would have continued to eat until it was literally running out of his big, floppy ears.  He’s frame of mind was build around his desire for food.  “More, give me more, I want food!”  He had the appetite of a St. Bernard in a 20 pound cocker spaniel body.

But seriously, what is this verse saying about us?
