Memories: Gifts from God

Proverbs 10:7

God has placed in our hands as human beings two wonderful lamps that light our paths.  One is the lamp of hope, which leads us forward through the uncertain mists of the future; and the other is the lamp of memory, which takes us by the hand and leads us back through the mists of the past to the happy scenes and experiences of yesterday.  By that soft glow of the lamp of memory, we look into those faces which we have loved from times past and which we love even today.

Proverbs 10:7 says, “The memory of the just is blessed.”  The memory of the just inspires us to worthy living.  Which one of us, having a godly father or mother, husband or wife, brother or sister, who walked the path of the just and did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, has not felt the uplifting power of their memory and their example?  Because they lived worthily, they call upon us to follow in their footsteps.

The memory of the just is blessed to the soul of man in the time of doubt.  When the very foundations of life and character are being undermined by doubt, when old beliefs are crumbling, then how often it has been that the memory of the just has called the soul back to faith.
