Meeting Needs and Sowing Seeds

Matthew 13:1-23

What is it about Jesus that was different than most religious leaders in the past and in our day and age?  I am sure you could probably name off several things couldn’t you?  His virgin birth, his death, burial and resurrection, his teachings to name a few.  But as we look at our passage today we see something that maybe one doesn’t really think about specifically.  I believe he is teaching us about his consistency.   Oh yes, the sowing of the seed is the prime example here in this passage and of course so is the reaction of the various people who receive the “seed” but what else is there?

I think we must back up to a couple of passages in the book of Psalms that will perhaps help us in understanding this parable and the angle of learning that I want to focus on today.  Turn to Psalms 126.  We are going to read verses 5 and 6.  “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.  He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing bringing his sheaves with him.”  Now stop for a moment and ask yourself this question:  What did I just read?
