Let's March Around Jericho

          I have always been fascinated by the story of Jericho.  From my days of childhood I remember singing the song about Joshua and the walls of Jericho.  Remember it?  Joshua fit the battle of Jericho, Jericho, Jericho.  Joshua fit the battle of Jericho and the walls came a tumbling down.

               I see in this story a truth that has remained true for centuries.  Let’s look at it and you’ll see why I invited you to march around Jericho with me this morning.

               Verse 1, “Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the Israelites.  No one went out and not one came in.”  The city was shut up.  This verse sets the situation which the Israelites were facing.  Jericho was on the defensive.  They had secured the gates of the city and were fortified for war because of the advancing forces of the Israelite army.  It was going to be a tough nut to crack so to speak.
