Know So Christianity
(Funeral Sermon for a committed Christian)
II Timothy 1:12b
By Harold D. Dinsmore, M.Div.
Ó2008Harold D. Dinsmore

We gather today to remember the life of..................It comes to us from the book of II Timothy 1:12…“nevertheless, I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.”  Paul was writing to the young preacher boy, Timothy.  He was trying to share with him that his salvation was something that was firmly a part of his life.  The Bible speaks a lot about knowing.  In another portion of the New Testament, the writer exclaims that he wants to “know Him and the power of the resurrection.”  Too often, people in this country have been fed a line about Christianity and religion in general.  The lie they have been told is that you never really know for sure you are going to heaven until you die and you show up at the pearly gates of heaven and they either let you in or they don’t.  The parallel thought that goes with that is that we have a hope so religion instead of a know so relationship.  Hope so religion really is no hope at all!  For if we don’t know for sure until it is too late, why bother hoping?  Just eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we all die!  But Christianity is far from that thought.  Christianity is a know so relationship with Jesus Christ.
