Is Jesus God?

Colossians 2:9

Today, I think it would be appropriate to discuss the question as to the nature and being of Jesus Christ.  Is Jesus God?  Colossians 2:9 says, “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity (Godhead) lives in bodily form.”

As Christians, it is basic to our theology to believe that Jesus is not only the Son of God, but is God in the flesh.  So as we begin, I want us to formally enter into an agreement.  Will you affirm with me that the Bible is the sole authority for all that we will hold to be true and that it has the final say on all matters it covers?

With that mutual assent to the authority of the scripture, I ask you now this question.  Is it scripturally possible for God to take upon Himself human nature and to become a man in every sense of the word?  Mark 10:27 tells us, “With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God.  Job 42:2 says, “I know that Thou canst do all things.”  And Psalms 135:6 says, “Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, in heaven and on earth.”  According to the Bible, is it possible for God to become a man?  Yes or no?  Yes.  Can God do whatever He wants to do?
