Hunger: Here and Abroad
Matthew 25:31-46

Relief begins at home.  How guilty we are as Americans.  We throw away more good food  in one day than most people in the world have to eat in one month.  Check it out!  How many of us have food stuffs in our freezers or refrigerators that we let spoil?  Remember those leftovers we tuck away in aluminum foil or those Tupperware type bowls or zip lock bags, mindful to consume them tomorrow, but forget they are there.  Then, one day, we move the gallon jug of milk and it reaches out and grabs us, seeking to pull us into the refrigerator.  OOHH!  Horror stories!  What’s that growing in the fridge!? Some of you look like it’s happened to you!  What happens to that food?  Is it recycled?  Some put it in compost heaps, but the majority goes right into the landfill.  Have you ever worked around restaurants or grocery stores?  It is unbelievable how much food we waste on a regular day in and day out basis.

People are literally starving to death here and abroad.  What are we going to do about it?  Ignoring it?  Some folks believe they have no obligation to help those less fortunate than themselves.  Why help those so far away from our church?  We have needs right here!  That may be right, but we were not put here to build crystal cathedrals and ivory towers.  We are here to build the church of God with people and we are here to help our fellow man.  Turn in your Bibles to Matthew 25:31-46.
