How To Make A Decision According To God's Will

Matthew 6:9-13

How often have we actually recited the Lord’s Prayer and not really understood what it is that we said?  Our time together this morning has at its core this question, “How do we make decisions according to God’s will?”  I believe we must begin here with the Lord Jesus’ words to the disciples concerning prayer.  Verse 10, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”  For me when I was trying to understand God’s will I recognized that God’s will is absolute.  Jesus’ statement here echoes that fact about God’s will in heaven.  Is there any question as to its authoritativeness?  Is His will ever debated?  Is it ever questioned in heaven?  I think not.  His will is law.  His will is absolute.  His will is carried out to its fullest extremity.  God’s will is known and carried out in heaven completely.

Jesus prays, “Thy will be done on earth just like it is in heaven.”  For many, and you may be one of them, God’s will is something kind of nebulous, an out there somewhere kind of thing that one has to go on a pilgrimage to find.  Not so.  God’s will is vibrant and probably is evident in your life right now and you not even know it.  Because as one evangelist has said, God’s will for your life is directly proportionate to the degree you are submissive to Christ’s authority over your life.
