His Love Endures Forever

Psalms 136

Today we are going to talk about love, but from God’s perspective.  After reading our passage of scripture today, does anyone want to venture to tell us what the theme of Psalms 136 is?  That’s right, God’s love endures forever.  Throughout the Bible we find this thing called love everywhere.  God has an unfailing love for his creation.  We see this throughout the Old Testament.  His unfailing love is mentioned again and again especially in the book of Psalms.  Today we want to look at a few important verses that reveal his love for us.

I would like for us to begin with a reading of I John 4:7-21.  We see several things I this passage that I believe is so vitally important for us.  In verse 7 it informs us that love originates with God.  In verse 16 it bluntly says, God is love.  In verse 19 he reiterates that we love God only because God loved us first.  Now, hold that idea when we go to the most famous verse in the Bible, John 3:16.  For God so loved the world.  God loves us folks.  He really does.  God is not some ogre that lives up in heaven and zaps us when we do something wrong.  God took the initiative to inform us that we had chosen the wrong path in life and that we were in need of help.  God’s love compelled him to take action and do something about our condition.
