Heaven I Corinthians 2:9 says “However, as
it is written: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what
God has prepared for those who love him.”
Paul was quoting from Isaiah 64:4 and was
speaking of the wonders of God’s grace both in this life and the life to
come. Verses 1-2 speak of heaven as a new creation. In verse 1, he reminded his readers
that we live in a world of time and space that is passing away.
Both Scripture and science agree that our
present universe is temporal.
It is destined for extinction.
John, however, did not view this as an
automatic process.
He envisioned God’s transformation of the
present material world into the reality of the spiritual world through
diving new creation. No more sea in verse 1 probably
represented to him the many separations that divide us in this present
world.
Those separations take many shapes; divorce,
disagreements, death, and on and on we could go.
In the life to come in heaven, there will be no
more separations.
