Guard Your Heart By Harold D. Dinsmore, M.Div. Proverbs 4:23 © 2007 Harold D. Dinsmore Well, in Proverbs 4:23 read, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” As we consider our hearts this evening, we must begin by coming to a mutual understanding as to what the heart is so that we might understand this passage a little better. The heart, used almost 900 times in scripture, most generally is never referred to in the literal sense. It is not a reference to the organ that pumps our blood. Therefore, it is important to know that the writers of the Bible most generally used it in reference to the seat of our emotions.
