Claiming God's Promises

Galatians 3:26-29

I was thinking this week about God’s promises.  As one reads the Bible, they are everywhere.  The one promise that came to my mind was that of God to Abraham.  In Genesis 15:5-6 we read, “And he brought him (Abraham) forth, and said, Look now toward heaven, and count the stars, if thou be able to number them; and he said unto him, so shall thy seed be.  And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.”

This promise was to a certain person and a certain people.  We find God making a covenant with Moses and Israel in Genesis 19 5-8 where he says, “Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people; for all the earth is mine: and you shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.  These are the words which thou shall speak unto the children of Israel.  And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the Lord commanded him.  And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord has spoken we will do.  And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord.” It is of importance that we note the whom of the covenant.
