Becoming a Courageous Christ Follower

Joshua 1:1-8
By Harold Dinsmore, M.Div.

God showed Joshua three keys to rising above life’s struggles and developing into a courageous follower of His. What can we learn from Joshua about becoming a Courageous Christ-follower? God told Joshua, "Prepare to cross over the Jordan to the land I am giving the Israelites." Joshua knew that the task would be a challenge. The journey included disappointments and frustration, from battles with the enemy to gripes and complaints from the Israelites. Death, disappointment, and uncertainty lay just around the corner. Interpreting life’s difficulties to mean that we are out of God’s will, can cause us to postpone or sidetrack our adventure with God. We forget that doing God’s will creates challenges and difficulties. As we become more conformed to the image of Christ, we will face and should expect challenges. Things can seem they are going all wrong. We can expect a big fight with Satan on every hand. He does not want you to get close to God. He is going to do everything possible to through stumbling blocks in your way. He is going to try and get you sidetracked.
