Always Prepare Why would Mark link our Advent hope to the baptism of John? What was it that he wanted us to understand when it comes to Advent itself?
To answer the first question I believe it is linked to baptism because
of baptisms symbolic nature. It
speaks of newness. In Isaiah 40
and verse 8 it says, “the world of our God will stand forever.”
William Willimon comments that this “invites comment on the
interplay between proclamation, announcement, preaching and our Advent
hope. The Word creates newness,
space, possibility in the desert, and a path from God to us.
The Word not only describes the world, but offers a new world.”
